Jason Kelce’s Retirement: A Nod to Philadelphia Eagles

PUBLISHED: March 6, 2024 at 3:00 am

Jason Kelce, the veteran National Football League (NFL) player, recently announced his retirement from the sport. Kelce, who had spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Eagles, made an unexpected fashion statement during his retirement announcement.

Jason Kelce, the revered NFL player, announced his retirement on March 4, 2024. The 36-year-old football player, known for his loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles, chose the retirement press conference to subtly flaunt his allegiance. He wore an Eagles T-shirt with the sleeves cut off. But that wasn’t all. The crowning glory was a discontinued yellow 18k gold Rolex GMT-Master II watch, customized with a green dial and a black ceramic bezel.

“Jason’s time in the NFL may be over, but his unwavering loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles shines on through his style choices.”

Kelce’s Rolex GMT-Master II is no common timepiece. Back in February, the NFL star revealed on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast that the watch was a special team commission following the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory in 2018.

The watch, according to the Wrist Aficionado website, has a resale value of $51,900.00. A hefty price for a timepiece, but a priceless memento for Kelce and his team’s significant achievement.

"Super Bowl rings aren’t fun to wear. First of all, you feel kind of like a douche, a little bit, I feel like, when you’re wearing it. It feels like you’re like, ‘Oh, look at me! I won a Super Bowl!'”

Kelce said on the podcast. He further added,

"they’re also really big and clunky. Like, it’s already giving me a blister on my finger. They’re not comfortable. So we all decided — along with a couple other guys on the team — let’s just have Rolexes made commemorating the Super Bowl.”

During the press conference, Travis Kelce, Jason’s brother, was seen wiping away tears as the latter announced his retirement. Travis, also an NFL player, was in the front row alongside their parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, as well as Jason’s wife, Kylie Kelce as Jason delivered a heartfelt address.

Jason spoke about his bond with Travis, their years of playing sports together as kids, and the joy they both felt when the other was drafted into the NFL. He said,

“We have a small family. No cousins, one aunt, one uncle. It was really my brother and I our whole lives. We did almost everything together — competed, fought, laughed, cried and learned from each other.”

Jason and Travis Kelce’s bond, both on and off the field, is a testament to their shared love for the sport and their enduring kinship.

Jason Kelce’s retirement announcement was not just a farewell to his career in the NFL but also a tribute to his team, the Philadelphia Eagles. His green-dial Rolex, a nod to his team, will forever be a reminder of his remarkable journey in the sport. As he steps away from the limelight, his legacy continues to inspire future generations of athletes.
