A statement on the Dallas County Facebook page stated that on Thursday, police were called to Perry High School in Perry, Iowa, about a shooting.

The tweet stated that “many law enforcement and medical personnel are on-site for a shooting at Perry High School.” “The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has taken steps to secure the site and will provide additional details as they become available.”

Confirmation of potential injuries was delayed.

A press conference by the authorities is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET).

Sgt. Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol told CNN that they were investigating the event but did not have any further details.

Numerous cities’ police cars are parked in front of the high school, and the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other organizations have verified that their officers have been sent to the location.

The FBI released a statement saying, “We are assisting the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, which is the lead investigative agency.”

According to a CNN source, the White House is monitoring and aware of reports of a shooting at a high school in Perry, Iowa.

Perry has 8,000 people living there, according to the US Census Bureau, and is located about 40 miles northwest of Des Moines. According to its website, the 1,800 pupils in the high school, middle school, and elementary school make up the Perry Community School District.

The district calendar indicated that classes will begin on Thursday for the upcoming semester. Perry High School has canceled this day’s classes, according to CNN affiliate KCCI.

Last year saw more than 80 school shootings in the US, more than any other year since CNN started keeping count of shooting incidents in 2008.
