PUBLISHED: January 27, 2024 at 8:59 am

A brave woman fought back after her French Bulldog was snatched away by thieves. Ali Zacharias, the owner of the stolen dog named Onyx, found herself clinging desperately to the hood of a speeding car as the culprits made their getaway. The shocking incident, which took place on January 18th at a Whole Foods store on Grand Avenue and 8th Street, has left the community outraged and concerned for the safety of pets in the area.

Ali Zacharias was enjoying a peaceful lunch at the popular Whole Foods establishment, accompanied by her beloved French Bulldog Onyx. Little did she know that her day would take a terrifying turn when a woman approached her table, calling out to the unsuspecting dog. Initially thinking it was a simple misunderstanding, Ali politely informed the woman that Onyx belonged to her. However, to her dismay, the woman ignored her and proceeded to grab Onyx’s leash, attempting to walk away with him.

Realizing that her dog was being stolen, Ali sprang into action, determined to retrieve Onyx. She followed the woman outside, only to discover a waiting getaway car. Undeterred, Ali made a bold decision to try and enter the vehicle. However, the car was already occupied by four individuals who forcefully pushed her out and locked the doors. With her dog still in danger, Ali positioned herself in front of the car, desperately seeking help from bystanders.

As the car accelerated, Ali found herself on the hood, gripping onto the vehicle for dear life. The shocking scene was captured on video by witness Harrison Pessy, who described the moment as horrifying. With each passing second, Ali’s fear intensified as the car’s speed increased. She recalled the harrowing realization that she might lose her life during the ordeal.

Despite Ali’s valiant efforts, the suspects continued to drive for several blocks, seemingly unfazed by the woman clinging to their car. Eventually, the driver made a sharp turn, causing Ali to be violently thrown from the hood and onto the pavement. The impact left her bruised and shaken but determined to report the crime to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

With the perpetrators still at large, the LAPD has launched an investigation into the incident. They have been scouring the area for any available surveillance footage that may aid in identifying and apprehending the thieves. The vehicle used in the crime has been described as a newer model white Kia Forte sedan with a missing hubcap on the driver’s front side.

Ali Zacharias, understandably distraught, describes Onyx as her child and pleads for his safe return. The French Bulldog, with his unique black merle coat and different colored eyes, is a distinct and recognizable canine. Ali has offered a substantial reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the recovery of her beloved pet.

The theft of French Bulldogs has become a concerning trend in recent years, with high-demand for the breed leading to an increase in dognapping incidents. This incident echoes the high-profile case involving Lady Gaga’s dogs, where a dogwalker was shot and the dogs were stolen. Although those dogs were eventually returned and arrests were made, it highlights the seriousness of the issue and the lengths some criminals will go to profit from these thefts.

Anyone with information regarding the theft of Onyx or the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact Ali Zacharias directly at 626-264-7923 or reach out to the Los Angeles Police Department at 1-877-275-5273. Every piece of information, no matter how small, could be instrumental in bringing justice and reuniting Ali with her beloved French Bulldog.
