National Guard Helicopter Crash Near Texas Border, 2 killed, 1 Injured: Officials

An unfortunate helicopter crash in Texas recently left a deep scar on the US-Mexico border security mission. This fatal crash claimed the lives of two National Guardsmen and a Border Patrol Agent, while leaving another soldier seriously injured.

A helicopter assigned to the US-Mexico border security operation suffered a catastrophic failure, forcing it to crash land near Rio Grande City, Texas. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Joint Task Force North, Report says.

The tragic crash claimed the lives of two National Guardsmen and a Border Patrol Agent. Another soldier suffered severe injuries and is currently in critical condition. The identities of the deceased have yet to be officially released.

The unfortunate crash took place during mid-afternoon while the helicopter was performing routine aviation operations. Starr County Judge Eloy Vera confirmed the presence of one woman and three men on board at the time of the crash.

General Daniel Hokanson, head of the National Guard Bureau, expressed his deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of the victims. He also offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the critically injured soldier.

The crash site is located in Texas‘ Rio Grande Valley, a heavily patrolled area by state and federal authorities. Regular aerial surveillance is conducted in this vicinity due to its proximity to the border.

The Starr County Sheriff’s Office secured the crash site. Federal officials were dispatched to the location to commence a thorough investigation. Border Patrol spokespersons were not immediately available for comment.

This tragic crash follows a similar helicopter crash that occurred in January as part of the Texas Department of Public Safety’s border patrolling activities. This was part of Operation Lone Star, a mission initiated by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to address immigration challenges.

This unfortunate crash is a stark reminder of the risks and challenges faced by our brave soldiers and border agents daily. As we wait for more details from the ongoing investigation, our thoughts go out to the families of the victims and the injured soldier.
