In a horrific incident that sent shockwaves through the community, seven individuals were discovered shot to death in two separate homes in Joliet, a suburb of Chicago. Following an intense manhunt, the suspected perpetrator, Romeo Nance, was found dead in Texas after a confrontation with law enforcement.

On a fateful day, the Joliet police were alerted to a devastating scene. In the 2200 block of West Acres Road, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of five victims in one house and two more in a neighboring residence. The Joliet Police Chief, Bill Evans, described it as the most horrific crime scene he had witnessed in his 29 years of service.

The focus of the investigation quickly turned to Romeo Nance, a 23-year-old individual with a troubled past. Nance was identified as a suspect in the brutal killings, and it was believed that he knew the victims, who were all related. His last known address was on the same block where the crimes took place. Authorities issued a warning to the public, stating that Nance was armed and dangerous.

The Joliet killings were not the only violent incidents associated with Romeo Nance. Prior to the horrifying discovery, two separate shootings had taken place in Joliet on the previous day. In the first incident, a 42-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 200 block of Davis Street. The victim survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Shortly after, another shooting occurred at the Pheasant Run Apartments, resulting in the death of a 28-year-old man named Toyosi Bakare.

Law enforcement agencies swiftly connected the dots between the Joliet killings and the earlier shootings. The red Toyota Camry associated with Nance was spotted at both crime scenes, raising suspicions of his involvement. Detectives from the Will County Sheriff’s Office began surveilling the West Acres Road home, where Nance’s last known address was registered, hoping to locate the vehicle and gather more evidence.

As the manhunt intensified, U.S. Marshals located Romeo Nance in Natalia, Texas, more than 1,000 miles away from Joliet. In a dramatic and tragic turn of events, Nance took his own life with a handgun after a confrontation with law enforcement officials. The exact circumstances of the encounter remain under investigation.

The identities of the victims have not been publicly disclosed, but it is known that they were all related. The tight-knit community of Joliet mourns the loss of these innocent lives, grappling with the devastating impact of the brutal killings.
