Jack Black Adds a Rock Twist to Britney Spears’ Classic in Kung Fu Panda 4

PUBLISHED: March 4, 2024 at 6:10 pm

Kung Fu Panda 4 has a surprise for its fans, a hard rock cover of Britney Spears’ iconic hit, “…Baby One More Time.” This remake is a creative collaboration by the famous comedic actor and musician, Jack Black, and his bandmate, Kyle Gass.

At the Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere in Los Angeles, Black, who gives life to the lovable character Po, spilled the beans about his rendition of Spears’ memorable 1998 song.

“Yeah. So, people don’t know … I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say. I’m just going to give you the scoop, but the director, Mike, said, ‘Hey. We’d love to have a Tenacious D song …,’ Black told reporters. “That’s Mike right there … ‘at the end credits. Will you do a song?’”

Black’s choice for a cover was none other than Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” which he believed resonated with the theme of Kung Fu Panda 4. He and Gass, also known as Tenacious D, then set out to create their interpretation of the pop classic.

“I was like, ‘Can we do Britney Spears?’ And he was like, ‘Yes,’ ” Black added. “And he said that he wanted ‘…Baby One More Time’ because it’s kind of in the vein of Kung fu.”

The duo’s rock version of Spears’ hit will play over the end credits of the film. They even made a music video on the red carpet, adding an exciting twist to the premiere event.

Before the movie premiere, Black and Gass released a video on TikTok showing them jamming to their hard rock cover. The video features the duo dancing in a living room, with Black showing off his vocal prowess and an electric guitar accompaniment filling the air.

Fans quickly began speculating that the song was connected to Kung Fu Panda 4, thanks to the panda emojis attached to the post. The confirmation at the premiere event only served to increase the excitement.

The rock rendition of “…Baby One More Time” adds a fresh spin to the pop classic, showcasing the versatility of both Spears’ song and Black’s musical talents. The choice of a Britney Spears’ song, a pop icon of the 90s, also brings a sense of nostalgia that resonates with the audience who grew up with her music.

Kung Fu Panda 4 continues the tradition of the previous movies in the series, combining humor, action, and heartwarming messages to create a film that appeals to audiences of all ages. The inclusion of a rock cover of “…Baby One More time” further adds a unique element to the movie, enhancing its entertainment value.

Kung Fu Panda 4 is set to hit theaters on March 8, promising an exciting and entertaining experience for fans of the franchise.
