Tesla, a company that aims to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy, recently announced a recall for nearly 3,900 Cybertrucks. The reason for this recall is a potential issue with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal. This problem could potentially cause the vehicle to speed up unintentionally, thereby increasing the risk of an accident.
The recall was triggered by a problem with the accelerator pedal pads in the Cybertrucks. These pads could potentially become dislodged, leading to the pedal becoming stuck by the interior trim, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The problem can lead to an unintentional acceleration of the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. No reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue have been reported as of yet.
The recall applies to all 3,878 of the 2024 Cybertrucks that Tesla built between November 13 and April 4. The information was revealed in the electric vehicle maker’s safety recall report.
Tesla discovered the problem with the accelerator pedal pad in late March when a customer flagged it. The company has assured that the issue has not led to any accidents, injuries, or fatalities.
Owners of the affected Cybertrucks can get the accelerator pedal assembly reworked or replaced by Tesla. The solution ensures that there is an adequate retention force between the pad and the accelerator pedal to prevent the pad from dislodging. The fix will be provided free of charge.
Tesla informed stores and service centers about the recall on Friday. This will be followed by a mailed notification to customers in June, according to the NHTSA notice.
The problem arose due to an unapproved change that introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal, Tesla reported. The company has addressed this issue in the production process.
The Cybertruck is the latest addition to Tesla’s lineup, which also includes the Model Y, 3, X, and S. The company also manufactures all-electric Semi trucks.
In late January, CEO Elon Musk praised the Cybertruck, stating it looked “like the future.” He also mentioned that the Cybertruck is distinguishable from other trucks on the road, even if the brand name were removed.
Despite this recall, Tesla’s market performance remains strong. The company’s shares are currently trading at $147.05, down by 1.92%.
