Chael Sonnen, the ex-UFC middleweight championship contender, has levelled accusations at Mike Tyson, the erstwhile boxing heavyweight champion. Sonnen alleges that Tyson falsified his training video for the impending fight against Jake Paul, scheduled for July 20 at AT&T Stadium. This match is set to be Netflix’s inaugural boxing event.
Tyson, at the age of 57, shared a video on Wednesday demonstrating his first day of training in anticipation of his battle against the 27-year-old Paul, who boasts a record of 9-1 since he took up boxing in 2020.

The video features Tyson, once dubbed the “Baddest Man on the Planet”, unleashing a series of powerful combinations on a trainer wearing pads. At the end of the video, Tyson states, “It’s day one, the fun has just begun.”
However, Sonnen, who has a mixed martial arts record of 31-17-1, isn’t taking Tyson’s video at face value.
In the future, if you’re ever going to spend five seconds hitting mitts, as a way of making the audience believe you’re doing a training session, make sure you splash water on your face and T-shirt first. https://t.co/5MZ11RjshH

In a post on his X profile, Sonnen wrote, “In the future, if you’re ever going to spend five seconds hitting mitts, as a way of making the audience believe you’re doing a training session, make sure you splash water on your face and T-shirt first.”
Sonnen is also known for his two title bouts against UFC legend Anderson Silva and his penchant for trash talk. He expressed his concern about the age difference between Tyson and Paul and compared it to the 2021 boxing match between MMA’s Vitor Belfort and Evander Holyfield.
During an appearance on the PBD Podcast, Sonnen said, “Vitor Belfort, who has never boxed, put him away so fast. So, this [Holyfield] is an Olympic gold medalist you’re watching,” Sonnen said. “Vitor, who has never done it [boxing], put him away so fast that it ended Vitor’s [boxing] career.”
