Paige Spiranac took to social media to share her thoughts on the harsh criticism faced by Caitlin Clark. She expressed disappointment at the negativity from current and former players, stressing the need for women to uplift one another in the sports industry.
The criticism against Clark wasn’t limited to anonymous internet users. Prominent figures in the sports world also voiced their opinions, including two-time WNBA champion Breanna Stewart. Stewart suggested that Clark’s legacy as one of the greatest in women’s college basketball history would be incomplete without an NCAA title.

Adding to the criticism, Hall of Famer Lynette Woodard disputed Clark’s achievement of becoming the all-time leading women’s scorer in major college basketball. Woodard argued that her record remains unbroken, given the different conditions under which they played.
Despite the criticism, Clark expressed gratitude for her time as a Hawkeye and looked forward to the next chapter of her career. She demonstrated grace and humility, maintaining a positive outlook despite the controversy.
“Words cannot express my love for my teammates, coaches, fans and our university – Thanks for making my dreams come true. Wearing Iowa across my chest the last four years has been an honor. This place will always be home,” Clark posted Sunday evening on X.
Clark is expected to be the top pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Her potential was acknowledged by WNBA icon Sue Bird and South Carolina coach Dawn Staley, who commended her for elevating the sport.
Spiranac applauded Staley for her postgame remarks, describing them as “supportive and kind.” She recognized Clark for handling the attention and pressure with grace, and praised Staley for acknowledging Clark’s impact on the sport.
The 2024 WNBA Draft is scheduled for April 15, and the Indiana Fever holds the No. 1 overall pick. The world eagerly awaits to see how Clark’s journey unfolds in the professional basketball scene.
