Body found in car, believed to be that of a Florida woman who has been kidnapped

PUBLISHED: April 13, 2024 at 7:53 am

The chilling case of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvias, a 31-year-old woman from Florida, is one such instance.

In broad daylight, an ordinary day turned into a nightmare. Katherine was abducted in her own vehicle, and the shocking moment was caught on camera by a passing motorist.

Tragically, the charred remains found in a burned car are believed to be Katherine’s.

The abduction was no less than a scene from a horror movie. Katherine was being pursued by a green Acura for at least half a mile. The Acura rammed into Katherine’s Dodge Durango several times, instilling panic in her. In a situation fraught with fear, she called her husband for help.

Despite her husband’s insistence not to halt, Katherine found herself stuck at a traffic signal. That’s when the nightmare truly began.

As Katherine’s car came to a stop, a masked man emerged from the green Acura and rushed towards her. The man then pointed a firearm through her window before climbing into the backseat of her car. The terror-stricken Katherine was then forced to drive under the control of her kidnapper.

“This is a tragic incident. A horrible, horrible situation,” said Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma.

A short while after the abduction, Katherine’s SUV was discovered in flames in a construction site 17 miles from where she was kidnapped. The police found several 10mm shell casings scattered around the scene, consistent with the gun used in the abduction.

The police are confident that the charred body inside the car was that of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvias. The body and car were so severely damaged that it was hard to confirm her identity; however, the circumstances were overwhelmingly consistent with the abduction incident, Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma said during a news conference on Friday.

“There are a lot of unknowns in this case,” said Sheriff Lemma.

While police are certain that the attack was targeted, the motive behind it remains elusive. Both Katherine and her husband, immigrants from the Dominican Republic, owned a barbershop and a beauty salon in south Florida. Neither had any known criminal history in the U.S.

The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff’s department is leaving no stone unturned in their search for the people responsible for this heinous crime. The green Acura involved in the abduction is still at large.

“Clearly they should be viewed as being armed and dangerous,” warned Sheriff Lemma.

There is a collective call for justice for Katherine, and the sheriff’s department is urging the public to provide any information they might have regarding the crime.
