Hollywood Standoff Captures Arrest of Barricaded Man

A standoff in Hollywood, South Carolina came to an end with the arrest of a barricaded man. The incident, which lasted for several hours, involved law enforcement agencies and the SWAT team. The suspect, identified as Andrew Robert Mettal, was taken into custody and now faces charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping.

A Friday afternoon when authorities responded to an incident in the Hollywood community. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and the SWAT team were called in to handle the situation. Andrew Robert Mettal, a 27-year-old man, barricaded himself inside a residence on Mauss Hill Road, sparking an intense standoff. The motive behind the barricade is still under investigation.

As the standoff continued, law enforcement agencies worked diligently to ensure the safety of both the suspect and the surrounding community. Charleston County deputies believed that Mettal was the only person inside the home, although they could not confirm whether it was his residence. Their primary concern was to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution without any harm to those involved.

To coax Mettal out of the residence, deputies launched a can of pepper spray into the home. However, it remained unclear whether the suspect was armed or had any weapons inside the house. Despite the tense atmosphere, authorities reassured the public that there was no immediate threat to those outside the immediate vicinity of the standoff. Nearby homes were not evacuated during the incident.

After several hours of negotiation, law enforcement successfully apprehended Andrew Robert Mettal. A K-9 unit was deployed into the residence and located the suspect hiding in the attic. Deputies later discovered Mettal inside one of the walls and safely removed him from the premises. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.

Mettal now faces charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping. These serious allegations will be addressed in a bond hearing scheduled for the following morning. The legal proceedings will determine the next steps in the case and the potential consequences Mettal may face if convicted.

Throughout the standoff, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from various agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Task Force. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement personnel ensured that the situation was handled with utmost care and professionalism.

As the standoff came to an end, roads in the vicinity of Mauss Hill Road were reopened to normal traffic. The community could finally resume their daily activities without any disruptions caused by the incident. The swift resolution of the standoff allowed for a return to normalcy in the Hollywood area.
