Willie Limond, a renowned former British and Commonwealth super-lightweight champion, has passed away at the age of 45.
Born and raised in Glasgow, Willie Limond had a highly successful professional boxing career spanning from 1999 to 2023. Out of his 48 professional matches, Limond emerged victorious in 42, among which 13 were won by knockout.
Despite the minor setback of losing four matches to eventual world title winners — Amir Khan, Anthony Crolla, Erik Morales, and Ricky Burns, Limond’s fighting spirit remained unscathed.
Before stepping into the boxing ring, Limond was a footballer and had played five times for Albion Rovers in the late 1990s.

Over the years, Limond held several prestigious boxing titles. He was the British super-featherweight, super-lightweight, and lightweight champion, as well as the Commonwealth light-welterweight, WBU lightweight, and IBO Inter-Continental lightweight champion.

Unfortunately, on the 6th of April, Limond was found unconscious in a car in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. He was immediately rushed to Monklands Hospital. However, he passed away, leaving the boxing world in shock and grief.
Willie Limond has been part of several memorable events in boxing history. One of his most famous bouts was the Commonwealth lightweight title match in 2007 against Amir Khan. Despite losing the match, Limond gave Khan the toughest challenge of his early professional career.
The sudden demise of Willie Limond has left a void in the world of boxing. Former world champion Anthony Crolla and Curtis Woodhouse, who were once defeated by Limond in the ring, paid their tributes on social media.
St Andrew’s Sporting Club, who were scheduled to host Limond’s fight with Laws, expressed their shock and grief at the loss of Willie Limond, calling him a legend of the sport.
