On a seemingly quiet Sunday morning in the Bronx, a chilling event unfolded that left residents shocked and deeply disturbed. A 75-year-old lady fell victim to a brutal attack in her residential building, sustaining multiple stab wounds to her face and head.
In the residential neighborhood of Tremont, within the confines of 2066 Morris Avenue, an elderly woman found herself the target of a horrifying assault. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed for privacy reasons, was followed into an elevator by a man later identified as Edwin Rios, 38. Rios proceeded to stab the elderly woman multiple times in the face and head.
Following the assault, the elderly woman was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she received medical attention for her injuries. The current state of her health, as well as any possible relationship with her attacker, remains undisclosed.
The suspect, Edwin Rios, was apprehended by the police on charges of attempted murder. Notably, Rios is no stranger to such heinous crimes. He was on parole for a similar assault that took place in October 2012, where he followed a 22-year-old woman off a bus in Queens and stabbed her twice in the back.
Despite the brutal incident, statistics from the NYPD indicate that overall crime in the Big Apple has decreased by 2.3%. However, felony assaults have seen a 3% increase, and robberies have risen by 4.1%.
This incident is not an isolated one. Recently, several women reported being randomly punched in Downtown Manhattan. One such case involved Skiboky Stora, 40, of East New York, who was charged with assault in connection with a random attack on Halley Kate. Kate’s experience, shared on TikTok, went viral and prompted several other women to come forward with their own stories of being sucker-punched while walking.
